Recognize: Raise the difficult issue
De-escalate: Slow things down and create safety so truths can be shared
De-code: Figure out what’s really going on and restore integrity

We tend to do the opposite:

Project: React to a person or situation we don’t have firsthand experience with based on our own different experiences and a narrative that excludes potentially valuable perspectives
Escalate: Add punitive urgency to the situation
Ignore: Once a guilty person or group has been “held accountable” aka scapegoated, no further action, introspection or accountability is necessary. In fact, it is vehemently discouraged.
