He’s In Love
The subject of Dennis’s affections cruelly recounts their awkward date.
“He’s In Love” was written while we were in the studio making our final run at the record. I brought it (and another one called “Sin & Bones”) in at the end of the tracking sessions. We laid ’em down thinking they were demos but this one just wouldn’t let go of my imagination. When I realized the song captured the potential feelings of the young woman Dennis Bland was fixating on it was obvious it belonged on the record.
I love how relaxed the whole band sounds on this track until Johnny Nason’s lead guitar takes it to that next level without ever breaking into full solo. While Johnny shines in the spotlight the secret power of this track is in Brian Schey’s bass part. Onstage Bryan could be a real showman and even though there’s nothing show-y about his playing on the record, musically minded listeners may recognize the subtlety of his invention throughout “UnPop…”
Lyrics
He’s In Love
Everyone can see
that he’s in love with me
Any fool could tell
with just one look how deep he fell
in love with me
oh-oh-oh-oh
shooby doo shooby doo shooby doo shooby do wah
He bought me a rose
tacked it onto my clothes
He picked picked out a ring
Lord, you should see that gaudy thing yeah
He wants to make it known
he wants me for his own
He’s left little doubt
Oh you should hear him scream and shout
He’s in love with me – oh-oh-oh-oh
He’s in love with me – oh-oh-oh-oh
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love love love of love
He’s in love
He’s in love
Everyone can see
what’s going on with me
but all some fools can see
is the world they wish and want to be yeah
You’d think he’d know
by all the signs I show
but he don’t wanna know
don’t wanna know
don’t wanna know
He’s in love with me – oh-oh-oh-oh
He’s in love with me – oh-oh-oh-oh
He’s in love with me – oh-oh-oh-oh
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love love love of love
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love love love of love
He’s in love
He’s in love
He’s in love love love of love
He’s in love
He’s in love
with me
