A Nerd’s Night In

Was it a date? Dennis thought it was but it wasn’t.

The only thing that keeps this song from being as pathetic as its subject matter is the power of The Previous hanging over it, punching through, and taking it to frightening heights. Or are they depths?

Once again, particular credit must go to Marshall Thompson and his piano, from its humorous flourishes until the moment he is unleashed at the end. Against Johnny’s guitar the combination is fucking majestic!

Lyrics

A Nerd’s Night In

I had a date
It didn’t go well
and I’m wondering if it’s the way that I smell
Well, I took a shower but you just can’t tell
what’ll turn some people off
She’s
just like all the others
who could have ended up as lovers
just like you or you or you or you or you

Well, I bought a bottle
but she didn’t drink
so I poured it off in the kitchen sink
I’m no Aristotle but I sure think
I’m going solo tonight
It’s
just like all the others
that could have ended up with lovers
just like you or you or you or you or you
Just like you or you or you or you or you

She tells me
everything
she tells me
rings like it’s a bell
and…

As she is leaving
I ask her if I
can kiss her goodbye
She asks me,
“Why?”
I say, “You look pretty”
She says, “That’s fine”
Then says, “No”
and then, “Goodbye”
Oh
she’s
just like all the others
who could have ended up as lovers
just like you or you or you or you or you
Just like you or you or you or you or you
Just like you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you or you…..
