About a year ago my friend ETHAN GOLD invited me to participate in the TELEPHONE project. Here’s the LINK to what I did.

The concept is simple. Artists from a wide array of disciplines are sent a piece of art from one of the participants. The artist creates their own work inspired by the piece they were sent. This work is then sent to another artist and the process continues, like a game of telephone.

The result is now complete and available today with 1,395 works from artists in 930 cities in 65 countries.

My song (and video) of  “Thousand Hands Slithers” is one part of this and I am very much looking forward to learning about the artist whose work inspired it, as well as seeing what my work inspired in someone else.

If you check out my song you may react the way a friend of mine who I shared it with did, “Why does your song have to be so mean?”

I don’t think of it as mean so much as messy and vulnerable. Everything in it is true and, yes, I am critical of the grammatical error in the piece I was provided, but I think I make it clear that this is my issue and not an issue with the original piece.

If I got my song/video as a prompt I have no idea how I would respond and I am prepared for the response to be as critical of my work as I was of the work I was given. I don’t imagine that most of the other artists chose to engage in such a pugilistic fashion to the work and if that’s what I inspired, so be it.

I LOVE what this project inspired me to create, a song unlike anything I have ever released. Strange, vulnerable, aggressive, funny and very rock and roll. I will make it available on streaming services in 2026. In the meantime the only place you can find it is on TELEPHONE

Extra special thanks to FERNANDO PERDOMO who played all the instruments except the acoustic guitar.

I will probably add to this post as I learn more about the artists I am connected to through the TELEPHONE so stay tuned!
