Who’s Gonna Make It Rain? (with Julie Christensen)
Julie Christensen was in the middle of her run as Leonard Cohen’s favorite back-up singer when we met at The Iguana Cafe, became friends, and she began singing with the band.
We were already into something deep with this but Julie’s presence took it to a level I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of, before or since. She’s just that good. The moment was that hot. It all came together for the track that justifies the album.
In its ultimate iteration, “Who’s Gonna Make It Rain?” is the culmination of The Weather Suite which leads us into the next stage of the ritual…
Lyrics
WHO’S GONNA MAKE IT RAIN?
Well I’ve been staying up all night
I’ve been feeling
pretty good
I’ve been wondering if it’s right
and I’ve been wondering if I should
continue
Well, no one said to stop
and I don’t know if I could
and if you called a cop
would it do us any good
at all…
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna call?
Make a big rain fall?
Who?
Maybe you?
Are gonna make it rain?
Well underneath the stars
underneath the moon
underneath the bars
around the window of your room
there are secrets
that are underneath your dress
underneath your skin
underneath the rest
and I’ve been dying to get in
for days
and weeks
and months
and years…
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna call?
Make a big rain fall?
Who?
Maybe you?
Are gonna make it rain?
Make it rain!!!!!
Well I don’t know if it’s true
but I hear we’re all the same
and if I look like you
I guess that I must be to blame
for what?
For this thing around the world
for this thing around my heart
for this thing about a girl
that’s just been tearing me apart
for years
and months
and weeks
and days
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna make it rain?
Who’s gonna call?
Make a big rain fall?
Who?
Maybe you?
Are gonna make it rain!
