The Man

“The Man” was inspired by Rick Springer.

I wrote it in the desert between Las Vegas and Mercury, Nevada after Rick was arrested for interrupting a speech by former president Ronald Reagan. He was attempting to get the word out about our march and the impending nuclear test. His action ultimately led to a federal prison sentence, an experience Rick wrote about in his book “Excuse Me Mr. President”.

That all happened the day before I wrote this song, mostly while marching with hundreds of others on Highway 95 toward Mercury and the full moon ritual in which Lasara invited me to play the role of invoking the god to her goddess.

Later that night I met Heidi Love.

Lyrics

THE MAN

Well the bugler’s blowing
at me on the street
Hope that he can lighten
this load from my feet
for I am marching
and I will not retreat
for I’m marching cause peace yeah
I’m matching for peace
and the man
oh the man
oh the man
he looks like me…
He looks like me…
alright
all them monkey’s go…

“Oo-ah. Oh-oh. Oh-oh-oh”

 Well the devil’s been toying
with our
beautiful greed
We ain’t enjoyin’
the things that we need
If you can follow
you can learn
to
lead
but you got to be free
yeah, we all got to be free
and the man
oh the man
oh the man
he looks like we…
He looks like we…
alright
all them monkey’s go…

“Oo-ah. Oh-oh. Oh-oh-oh”

And the man…looks like me….
