Kindling Girl
In 1994 I was living in a house on Franklin Street in Olympia. The Noses (and a band called Mu) rehearsed in the basement.
When they moved out The Previous moved in.
During those early days on Franklin St. I wrote and recorded this song. It really was that cold.
Lyrics
KINDLING GIRL
I’ve been doing time in a cold and lonely land
I don’t mind the lonely but the cold I just can’t stand
Everyone’s a smoker and no one has a job
and even amongst all these bums I’m the biggest slob
I need a kindling girl
A new flame
I’m turnin’ blue without you
I could take a shower but I’d freeze before I dried
so I just sit in bed for hours trying to decide
(what to do what to do)
to keep warm I used to go out and drive my car
but now the tires are all worn
I guess I drove that thing too far
I need a kindling girl
A new flame
I’m turnin’ blue without you
I went to my landlady
I said the weather could be better
She said that it would be
and she took off her sweater
and gave it to me
So I just went up to my room and I shivered for a while
but the wind whips off the river
and makes my pleasure vile
Well, we could get together and watch our breath
Just catch a cold forever and share it to death sayin’,
“Hoo hoo you sure look cute whenever you start turning blue”
I need a kindling girl
A new flame
I’m turnin’ blue without you
