Hole In The Bottom
This record started out as a demo and this was the first song on that demo.
Practically a nursery rhyme set to a blues riff from Billy Lincoln.
It’s mostly a showcase for the band’s frontmen;
Billy’s guitar – Both acoustic and electric
Clay Goldstein’s transcendent harmonica tone
And my vocals.
I had this idea that Mr. Jones & The Previous would start, like so many of my favorite bands from the 60’s and 70’s had, playing blues music, and evolve toward the present. I’m not sure we ever got there but I do think this track at least deserves to be in the conversation with other blues rock pop artists of the era like Georgia Satellites, The Del Fuegos, The Black Crows, Morphine & whatever Bruce Willis was doing around this time.
Lyrics
HOLE IN THE BOTTOM
There’s a hole in the bottom
There’s a hole in the bottom
There’s a hole in the bottom of my heart
and your love is just a creepin’ in
creepin’ in
creepin’ into my heart
And there’s a chip off the top of
Yeah there’s a chip off the top of
There’s a chip off the top of my heart
and your love is just a creepin’ in
a creepin’ in
a creepin’ into my heart
And there’s a crack through the middle
Yeah there’s a crack through the middle
There’s a crack running through my heart
and your love is just a creepin’ in
just creepin’ into my heart
And there’s a hole in the bottom
And there’s a chip of the top of
and there’s a crack runnin’ through my heart
Your love is just a creepin’ in
creepin’ in
creepin’ into my heart
