Beautiful

If we’d made the record in 1991 before I met Heidi Love The Hard Feelings would have ended with “So Easy” but by the time we made it I was in love and married and sure it was a true and enlightened love that would last forever so I decided to give the album a hopeful ending. In retrospect almost all my instincts were wrong but I’m still glad I captured the full spectrum of fractious love, including its most inspired beginning here at the end of the album.

Lyrics

Beautiful

Lifetimes come and lifetimes go
Everybody seems to know it
At least they say it
Well I’m not absolutely sure
but I’ve got a strong suspicion
‘Cause sometimes when I look at you
it feels like a river is washing over me
and I’m part of the stream

Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you because if I do
I must be beautiful

But upon reflection late at night
I get a littler worried for myself
Maybe wrongly
but I look into those rabid eyes and I feel it
I feel it so strongly but
sometimes when I look at you
it fells like a sun rise
Like a goddamned sunrise
all night long

Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you because if I do
I must be beautiful

When my day goes bad I’ll
bring it home to you
When it goes good I’m gonna do the same

Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you?
Do I look like you because if I do
I must be beautiful
