Superlame
I wrote “Superlame” as an Olympia rock song and gave it to R. Walt Vincent to produce like an LA pop song. Then, after touring and promoting it across the country for most of 2001, I learned from a disabled friend that “lame” is considered offensive among many in the disabled community. So I stopped playing it, but I still think it’s a great track. Maybe one of my best.
Lyrics
SUPERLAME
Call me dim
and call me daft
for putting myself in her path
but she could cut my heart in half
and I’d still be her fool
All my life I’ve tried in vain
to find somebody I can blame
for building me an empty frame
but now I see it’s cool
because I’m Superlame
Yes I’m superlative at being lame
Oh yes I’m Superlame
and that is
not the same
as bein’
just plain lame
like you
So who are you to give advice
You’re not smart or even nice
You just like to criticize
to make yourself feel cool
Oh yeah…
Where were you when she came around
and saved me from this cruel town?
You just laughed and put me down
’cause even then you knew
that I was Superlame
Yes I’m superlative at being lame
Oh yes I’m Superlame
and that is
not the same
as bein’
just plain lame
like you
So, now you know what I’m about
It’s sad I had to spell it out
but now there can be little doubt
that I’m nobody’s fool
No I’m just Superlame
Yes I’m superlative at being lame
Oh yes I’m Superlame
and that is
not the same
as bein’
just plain lame
no no no no no no
not the same
as bein’
just plain lame
like you
