Hot Cross (Live)
This is the encore from Shmushkin’s Hollywood debut at Spaceland.
“Hot Cross” is a true story from the days living in the Aistream outside Andy Dick’s place. The Coronet Bar and Theater on La Cienega was just around the corner. There was a sushi bar across the street, next to a strip club we liked to hang out at.
That’s the set up and the song pretty much tells the rest.
Lyrics
HOT CROSS
My friend Jeff was stalking this stripper
But that don’t make him no Jack The Ripper
’cause he’s doin’ it sensitively
Go into a bar where he knew she wouldn’t be
and hope that she would come lookin’ for he
Y’see…
He met her in this restaurant next to a
bar where people they get to put
money in her panties she will let you
if you got the cash and the nerve
Yeah, the girl is there to serve
you some hot cross
Hooo-ot cross
Get ’em up on the hot cross
Well,
when one’s courtin’ a stripper
Is it customary for one to tip her
She told him that she wasn’t a tramp
He said he was
and invited her back to his camp
She said, “No tonight
but maybe some other time I might”
That’s all he needed to hear
Just a whiff of that hot cross in his ear
So every Monday night at ten
he would go back to that bar again
read his book and drink
and ask the bartender what he thinks of his chances
He says, “Girls like that they don’t do no free dances”.
He hopes he will be the exception
but the bartender’s look says he’s setting himself up for rejection
Ah…on account of that hot cross
Get him up on the hot cross
Well my friend Jeff’s still stalking that stripper
but there ain’t no need for fear to grip her
He’s gonna keep his dick in his pants
but you know he ain’t never gonna pay for no dance
He’s just sniffing around for romance
and hopin’ that she gives him a chance
at some of that hot cross
Hooo-ot cross
Get him up on the hot cross
