Some More Time
I really love this song. It’s the first one on the record that begins to push against the blues band constraints into the weird songwriter I would become.
The opening reminds me of something off REM’s “Green” and the lyrics, about a battle with an alarm clock, were written before They Might Be Giants released “Birdhouse In Your Soul” which seems like a song which would inspire something like this.
The part about the dream and the swimming pool is true but what didn’t make it into the song is that I wasn’t alone at the pool. Meredith Baxter Birney was there too. I will leave it to the amateur psychologists in the audience to have their way with this low-hanging Freudian fruit.
Lyrics
SOME MORE TIME
The clock in the corner
is waving it’s arms
like it’s giving me a warning
I’m aware that it is
quite alarmed
but it’s 6 o’clock in the morning
I know you’re just doing your job
You don’t deserve to have things thrown
but Mickey…
You better leave me alone
Well I was dreaming of a swimming pool
It was warm and blue and I could breathe in it
Understand what I am telling you
Don’t wanna leave
Just give me 5 more minutes
I know you’re just doing your job
You don’t deserve to have things thrown
but Mickey…
You better leave me alone
I know that you’ve been set up
and you’re taking the wrap
Oh but now I’m the boss
and I ain’t gonna take any more of your ringin,
Ringin’
Ringin’
Some more time
Some more time
Some more time
Some more time
I know you’re just doing your job
You don’t deserve to have things thrown
Oh but Mickey…
You better leave me alone
